The Shepway Economic Regeneration Partnership (“SERP”) is a joint public/private body that exists to promote the sustainable economic development of Shepway and provides a collective voice for the district’s business community, within the context of Kent and the wider region

SERP’s Role
To enhance Shepway district’s position as a significant sub-regional economy by:
- Partnership:
· Working in partnership to develop a shared vision for the local economy and ensure the implementation of a district economy strategy
- Leadership:
· Influencing the development of sustainable policies and activities that reflect the needs of business and the district’s economy
- Voice:
· Providing a coherent voice for the district’s collective economic interests at a local, East Kent, county, regional, national and international level
- Co-ordination:
· Ensuring economic development projects, funding bids and promotional activities are co?ordinated across the district and East Kent to maximise the benefit for the local area
2007 Priorities
Economic Development/Regeneration Strategy 2007-2012
Design a strategy that meets the distinctive needs and aspirations of the District and agree a series of headline indicators that will help us to monitor progress.
Jobs and Skills
Create an employment ‘road map’ for the District. This tool will monitor all the major developments locally in terms of jobs and can be used to inform local decisions and applications for Govt funding
Planning
Work alongside SDC’s Planning team to help improve consultation with the business community and to ensure that the planning process meets the needs of the Economic Strategy.

Promotion and Branding
Build a new brand for the District, not just in terms of tourism, but holistically to promote it to inward investors and individuals.
Lobbying and representation
Attract support from senior influential public and private sector figures and our network of contacts across Kent. and build upon representation and influence on other key strategic bodies in Kent and beyond.
Environment
Review maintenance of employment areas (retail, industrial & commercial), as well as improving the environment in which businesses operate.
Funding
Work with local partners to develop new and innovative funding proposals that meet the needs of our Economic Strategy.
